KENP Calculator for Kindle Unlimited

KENP (Kindle Edition Normalized Pages) is how Amazon counts pages read in Kindle Unlimited (now Kindle+). You're paid a rate for each page, and the rate changes every month.

This calculator turns your pages read into royalties, shows what one full read of your book is worth, and compares it with an ebook sale.

Built by a KDP author with 10 books and 25,000+ copies sold, who got tired of doing this math by hand.

Free, no signup. Pick your Amazon marketplace, and the rates and results show in its currency.

    Step 1: Your book

    What is KENP?

KENP (Kindle Edition Normalized Pages) is Amazon's way of counting a Kindle ebook's pages so the count is the same across devices and display settings. Amazon works it out using standard formatting, like font, line height and line spacing. Images, charts and graphs count toward it too.

Your book's KENP page count is often called KENPC. KENP read is how many of those pages Kindle Unlimited (now Kindle+) readers have read. Amazon counts from your book's Start Reading Location, usually chapter 1, to the end.

    How Kindle Unlimited pays authors

Each month, Amazon sets aside the KDP Select Global Fund. Your share depends on how many of the total pages read or listened to by Kindle+ subscribers were yours. In practice that works out to a rate per page:

Kindle Unlimited royalties = KENP read × rate per page

A few rules from Amazon worth knowing:

    • First reads only. You earn the first time a subscriber reads or listens to a page. Re-reading the same pages doesn't earn again.
    • A cap per reader. You can earn for up to 3,000 KENP read per title per customer.
    • Pages, not borrows. A reader who stops halfway earns you half a book.
    • Monthly timing. Amazon announces the fund monthly, and your KENP numbers are finalized around the 15th of the following month.
    • Each marketplace has its own rate. Pick yours in Step 1, or see the table below.

    KENP rates by marketplace

Amazon doesn't publish a per-page rate. It's each month's fund divided by all the pages read, and every marketplace gets its own. Authors work out the rate from their own KDP reports. These estimates for September 2026 come from author-reported KDP data collected by the Author Helper Suite.

Kindle Unlimited and your Amazon Ads

If your book is in Kindle Unlimited, your ads earn more than Amazon's ad sales show. Amazon Ads doesn't count page reads as ad sales, so they're left out of ACOS. The Amazon Ads console reports them separately, as KENP read and estimated KENP royalties, for readers who clicked your ad and read within 14 days.

To see whether a campaign is profitable once page reads are counted, use the break-even ACOS calculator.

    What this calculator doesn't include

    • Exact rates. The built-in rates are estimates from author reports; your KDP reports give your actual rate.
    • The final rate for the current month, until Amazon announces it.
    • KDP Select bonuses.
    • Ebook and print sales (see the break-even ACOS calculator for ad sales).

    Frequently asked questions

    What is KENP?

KENP (Kindle Edition Normalized Pages) is Amazon's standard page count for Kindle ebooks in Kindle Unlimited (Kindle+). It's calculated with standard formatting, so it's the same on every device. Authors are paid for each KENP read.

How much does Kindle Unlimited pay per page?

There's no fixed rate. Each month Amazon divides the KDP Select Global Fund across all pages read, and each marketplace has its own rate. Recent estimates from author reports put Amazon.com at about $0.00531 a page for September 2026. For your exact rate, divide a month's Kindle+ royalties by its KENP read in your KDP reports.

How do I calculate KENP royalties?

Multiply your KENP pages read by the rate per page. For example, 30,000 pages read at $0.00531 a page is $159.30. This calculator does it for you and shows how many full reads and ebook sales that equals.

Do I get paid if a reader doesn't finish my book?

Yes, for the pages they read. Amazon pays per page read, counted from your book's Start Reading Location. You earn the first time a subscriber reads a page, and up to 3,000 KENP per title per reader.

When is the KENP rate announced?

Amazon announces the KDP Select Global Fund monthly. Your KENP numbers for a month are finalized around the 15th of the following month, and your Kindle+ royalties are available then.

Are Kindle Unlimited page reads included in ACOS?

No. Amazon Ads reports page reads separately as KENP read and estimated KENP royalties, so they're not in ad sales or ACOS. Use the break-even ACOS calculator to add them in.

BookBidder brings in your KDP royalties, including Kindle Unlimited page reads, so you can see profit per book next to your ad spend.
